Recent Folders Greyed Out

Just upgraded to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. In the Finder under the "Go" menu, "Recent Folders" is grayed out permanently (so it seems). Anyone else seeing this? Please let me know either way, just to confirm.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Hello q99D7_,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your Recent Folder being grayed out. This occurs when your Recent items (Documents, Apps, Servers) are set to none. To correct this:

1. Open System Preferences

2. Click the top left General tab

3. Near the bottom, there is a box for Recent items. Change it to anything other than "None".

4. Restart your Mac.

Let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks.

Have you opened any folders recently?

The menu will be grayed out if there are no "recently used" folders, like if you Clear the menu.

As I realize that is probably not likely, there may be something causing it to not record the recently used folders. I don't know what that would be.

You can try running in Safe Mode to see if you can replicate it there. If it works in Safe Mode, that would indicate something installed at startup is interfering.

Also, try running as Guest or another user and see if the problem is there. If it works in other users, that would indicate it is something that runs when you log into your account.

If you click on finder from dock , click on Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library , you have searched system library or do search some other folders they will be saved in recent folders and it will not be highlighted .

User uploaded file

If you click on clear menu all data will be cleared so it will show as semi greyed .In your case recent folders is permanently greyed out means you have not searched anything , or if the scenario is different , create a new user account , see if the issue persists .

Unfortunately, no. I upgraded another system today and the same anomaly occurred, so it is not an isolated incident. Luckily, it is a small issue and I can deal with it because I never use that menu option (although, I would like it to be functional for the sake of me wanting things to be "right".)

I even booted the machine with command-R and reinstalled JUST the OS files again - no luck. I know it is of no consolation to you, but I am glad to hear of at least one other report of this. This lets me know that it is not just a problem with MY system. If anything changes, I will post back here immediately.

Thanks for your report.

Hey so I was just looking at my storage and I went into"manage storage" and deleted a couple of large files that were movies. I then went back to finder to see that all my files, all documents are gone. I know I did not delete them, but even in iCloud, when I click on documents, it's empty. I am afraid to shut down my computer or do anything because I know the files are there somewhere. When I click on recent and "choose an application to open the document" all files are there but grayed out. I'm baffled and afraid to make any moves lest I actually delete all my files. Have you gotten any relief or do you have any wisdome to share? Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2
