How to close opened apps on the iphone X

It is unclear if you can or cannot close the apps you have opened on the new Iphone X model

There is not an (X) on each of the apps nor can you swiped up to clear them,

It would be great if someone could tell me if there is a way of doing so.

Open iBooks and download the free Apple IPhone guide for iOS 11.1 which includes the iPhone X. Go to page 76.

“Switch between apps

While using one app, you can easily switch to another.

View open apps.

iPhone X: Swipe up from the bottom edge and pause to show the App Switcher.

Other models: Double-click the Home button to show the App Switcher.

All of your open apps appear in the App Switcher. Swipe right to see more. To switch to another app, tap it.

Tip: (iPhone X) To quickly switch between open apps, swipe right along the bottom.

Close an app. If an app isn’t working properly, you can force it to close, then try to reopen it. (Typically, there is no reason to close an app; closing it doesn’t save battery power, for example.) To close an app, open the App Switcher, swipe right to find the app, then:”

Surely though you should be able to just swipe up on them like with any other iOS device. This is a massive flaw in the iPhone X. They had a similar issue on the iOS11 beta for iPad, you had to press and hold on the app to close it, but they rectified that so you can just swipe up. Hopefully they will do this for iPhone X also... and soon.

Swipe up from where? The iPhone X has no home button to double tap to bring up the list of open apps to swipe on. The App Switcher is now the way to do this on the iPhone X.

You didn't read above. To bring up the open apps: from the bottom center of the screen swipe up and keep your finger on the screen, but pause in the middle of the screen. This brings up the open apps.

On any app you want to close completely, put your finger on the app and hold it there for a moment, then swipe up and that app will close.

How do I close Pandora on the iPhone X? Any help is greatly appreciated, because the only way to close Pandora is to power the phone down. I did, accidentally, close Pandora from the control center (swipe down from right top corner of the screen) but I had tried so many things that I don’t know what I did that worked. All the other apps I use can be closed, but Pandora is in a special class stubborn apps. I had issues with it on my 7, but I figured it out fairly quick. I leaped from a 4 to a 7, so that was the delay on the 7. The manual doesn’t cover apps like Pandora, or I overlooked it. Again, thanks for any information you can provide.

UPDATE: I finally figured it out, thanks to your advice and a little more patience this go around. I did have to slide from the bottom, press on an app long enough to get the red circle and press it. The only difference was I had to do this process twice for Pandora to close. I tried it several times and on each attemp, the process had to be done twice. Thanks for you help Michael Black, and I hope this helps anyone else with Pandora problems.
