Strange characters

My iPad and iPhone keep placing weird characters in place of common words. For example, I will type the letter ”i“ several time in lower case to demonstrate; I I I and caps I I I. If I post/comment on Facebook, it appears correct when typing but as soon as posted, it replaces with the strange characters. If I edit the post, it appears correct but will put the weird characters back in when saved. The predictive words in the boxes show the correct letter but the default in the middle that it is replacing or autocorrecting shows as a Capital “A” with a question mark and a box around it so if I press the space bar to continue typing, the iPad/iPhone puts the above characters in place. I can select the correct word in the predictive bar but defeats the purpose of the whole concept. I am using bluetooth keyboard and have turned it off and it still does it with the onscreen keyboard. My iPhone does it too as well as my other iPad. This is really annoying and cannot figure out how to get it to stop. Tried turning off the predictive option of the keyboard in settings but then lose the ability to select the correct word. Any ideas?

Seems to be a known bug affecting many users. Restart sometimes, but not often, works. Let Apple know.
