iOS 11 - How to turn off roaming???

Hi,

Since iOS 11 has been released, it's impossible to turn roaming off.

I'm not talking about DATA, which has an on/off option, I'm talking about all roaming access, voice access.

I live close to a border and if I disable automatic carrier, iOS 11 picks any foreign carrier anyway. That just cost me $280+ because when people call me and I answer, it's charged to me as international calls.

Up to iOS10 setting carrier to OFF (not Automatic) showed "No service" instead, exactly what I need.

Who do I charge those $280 now? To Sir Jonhatan Ive for his brilliant idea of simplicity in software design?

Anyone with a way to disable ALL roaming actions?

Thanks for any help

Steve J

If the carrier profile on your iPhone does not allow you to disable Voice Roaming then the only option is to contact your carrier and have Voice Roaming disabled at the account level.

Check and see if there is a carrier update that would allow you to configure the profile to disable Voice Roaming on the phone itself.

In general, it is safer to have roaming disabled at the account level if the main goal is to avoid roaming charges.

I understand your dilemma about the implications of disabling at the account level

It seems as if the problem is your carrier's backend is not yet fully aligned with the new iOS. In my case, iOS 11 has had no impact on control over roaming--it is exactly as before.

Unfortunately, each carrier has its own "profile" that is pushes to an iPhone and that limits what the user can do. That effectively makes the functioning of the phone carrier specific.

It may be the case that your carrier has not yet updated its backend system to mesh optimally with the new iOS.

Unfortunately, your options are rather limited at present with real negatives associated with either leaving roaming on at the account level or turning it off.

Sadly, consumers have very little recourse in these cases.

Hi thanks for your answer,

I did call them, and they confirmed they can't do anything as it's on Apple's hands.

If I disable on the account, then I can't use roaming when I need it.

Apple just removed the opportunity to control what and when.

Then the "Automatic carrier" option is useless as the owner's one is always the default one.

Why put this option then if you can't say "stop" when your own is not available or weaker (like in my case) than any other stronger carrier. This seems to be non-sense to me.
