Is there any evidence to support that ?
Well, it wouldn’t work all that well as a telephone without a microphone somewhere in the vicinity of where your face produces sound 😁
Sorry, couldn’t resist but we all tend to forget that first and foremost every iPhone is a cellular telephone.
Goodness, please read the thread before you add a "Me Too" post. There is only one speaker at the bottom of the phone, and always has been. The other grill is for the microphone, so you can talk on the phone.

Left speaker is not working !
It isn’t problem actually in left side only microphone. Bottom of the phone there is only one speaker and another one top of the phone in te notch. Relax
Yes, that's what Chris explained back in November in the response that was marked "Solved". So, I think the Original Poster understands.
Correct, as this opening is a microphone.
Is there any evidence to support that ?
As with all iPhone models, at the bottom edge of the phone, there is one speaker, one microphone.
Thanks much appericiated
You're welcome.
Same problem I m also getting in Iphone x
If you’d read the thread it is NOT a problem. There is only a single speaker on the bottom of any iPhone. The image Chris posted is of an iPHone X.
The picture indicates that it has stereo speakers and points to both sides though? They removed the aux so they could add another speaker. It wouldn’t be stereo if there was just one. Right?
Nevermind, it says stereo “speaker”, not speakers.
The stereo affect for music is achieved by the combination of the earpiece speaker AND the single bottom speaker.
Why did they remove the headphone jack of they were just gonna replace it with a useless speaker?
