Currently all iPhone X phones sold in the US are carrier locked, so the right answer is either buy it in India, or wait until a fully sim-free iPhone X is sold. There, problem solved. Some say you can buy a T-Mobile phone and have T-Mobile unlock it. They may, they may not. And if you buy your phone in the US and you ever need service, the warranty is NOT valid in India. Should you need warranty service, you'll be flying back to the US with your phone as you cannot ship it to Apple to be fixed. Whatever the cost savings are to buy the phone in the US, these limitations should make you think twice about buying your phone here.

Some say that "If you're looking for the most straightforward to buy an unlocked iPhone with no strings attached, then purchasing your phone for the full retail price directly from Apple is the way to go. You'll still need to pick a carrier, and your iPhone will arrive with a SIM card for that carrier, but the phone itself will come unlocked right from the start." IS THAT TRUE?

I don't believe that's true in this case. All the iPhone X's sold, even by Apple, even full price are still carrier locked. You'll still need to get whatever carrier you choose to agree to unlock the phone. It's not as simple as taking the carrier sim out and putting in another carrier sim. The phone on startup still requires service with the carrier it was locked to at purchase.

Why are you so focused on buying iPhone X in the US? There's really no advantage to you and the truth is, there are distinct and real disadvantages.

Also in answer to when Apple may release a fully unlocked iPhone X, the answer is we won't know until Apple releases it. If history repeats, Apple doesn't release an unlocked phone until supply catches up with demand. In the past that time span was anywhere between 45 - 90 days. Given iPhone X is now back ordered in many cases into January 2018, one can surmise an unlocked X won't be released until sometime in 2018. You'll just have to wait if you still intend to purchase the phone in US.

Not in Canada. SIM locking (Carrier locked versions) is illegal here. But people lined up at the Apple Store here in Toronto and walked out with unlocked versions of it. Which means, yes the Apple Store here in Toronto got unlocked versions of the X. Even if people went to a carrier here in Canada, they'd walk out with a completely unlocked phone, but the carrier would want to make sure they are a customer.

But I do agree with your post.

Oh it can be watched. I edited that part out. It could be a heck of a lot worse though.

But like I said you're starting to wake up and smell the coffee. We've already had people think iPhone warranties are international when they aren't. Say you buy a phone in the States or Canada and fly back to India and then something is wrong with it and you have to avail yourself on the warranty. We're telling you not to do it. We could've said yes go ahead and do it but we didn't. The warranty as mentioned earlier only applies in the country of purchase. People don't seem to realize this.

About my post on the unlocking of the X. In the States it's carrier branded depending on the carrier. In Canada that's illegal so we had X's unlocked from the start. We didn't have to wait. There's a huge difference.

There are consumers in India who claimed warranty within the country for unlocked iPhones bought in US, let's not get into this if you're not aware. And my tone can't b watched, it's response to stimuli. Whether legal or illegal, India has a history iPhones were never sold locked. So let's not talk about buying in Canada or India, stick to US or shut the topic
