Different number of photos between iPhone and Mac (iCloud Photo Library)

(note: I posted this on the iOS App Community but just realised this seems to be the proper place. Apologies for double posting...)

Hello all. The Photo app (Version 3.0) on my Macbook (High Sierra 10.13.1) shows 4100 photos, but my iPhone (iOS 11) shows 2008. I have iCloud Photo Library enabled, use the same apple ID on the iPhone and Mac and I understand the number of photos should be basically the same... No photos on recently deleted folder or hidden...

There is still a lot of space on iCloud and on the iPhone. I also tried powering off/on the iPhone and still no improvements.

Any ideas on how to ensure all iCloud photos are also on the iPhone? Should I try disabling iCloud Photo Library and re-enable that?

Try going to iCloud.com using a computer to see if the items are there and which device they are from. That should show which device isn't syncing. On the device, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and disable syncing. After a couple of minutes, turn syncing on. As a last resort, you can also try signing out of iCloud and then sign in again.

Thanks a lot for the reply Eric. I tried that and it still did not sync all photos... New photos sync just fine though... Really odd. Any additional tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

You are welcome. Were the photos at iCloud.com/Photos from the iPhone or the Mac?
