I'm unable to read .rtf files which contain cyrillic wording. Instead of cyrillic letters "TextEdit" or Pages or MS Word show symbols as "ÑÌÈ" etc.
How can I ready cyrillics texts in rtf format using my Macbook?

I don't know why the usual apps will not detect from the internal code that the rtf is in Windows Cyrillic encoding, but the app Mellel has an File > Import > RTF function that lets you choose this manually and will open it correctly.

You have not said what version of Pages, but TextEdit definitely can read Cyrillic rtf.
Nor have you said what the original text was.
If you can get hold of Microsoft Word for Windows, and possibly LibreOffice [free] or TextWrangler [free] or BBEDit, you should be able to change the encoding from the non-Unicode version and Resave it as Unicode.

There was a reason I specifically recommended Microsoft Word for Windows and not Word for Mac.
Have you actually tried LibreOffice? It has Save As > Text - Choose Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8) or (UTF-16).
Again from what you have said, it is not the rtf that is a problem, it is the encoding.

It sounds like the files are using a legacy encoding instead of Unicode. If you send me one of the files I can see how you might open it (tom at bluesky dot org).

I can't test it, but I suspect that a Russian localized version of Word 2011 will still produce rtf and lots of other stuff encoded as cpg 1251. Backwards compatibility:-)
There is also iconv(1) in the Terminal for conversions of one encoding to another.
Peter, thank you, but I've tried almost all that you've described, nothing works, unfortunately
even MS Office (Mac version) opens .rtf files with "wrong" cyrillics (e.g. "ÑÌÈ")
but if I go to Windows and open .rtf with MS Word (Windows one, not Mac) text is absolutely okay and I can save file as *.docx and I'm able to open it in Mac and everything is okay with cyrillics in this case, but the problem is that I won't be able to access to MS Windows soon, hence I'll have troubles with cyrillics rtf files when I get them in Mac OS (same problem with iphone, ios is unable to read cyrillics in rtf files)

anyway, it opens as in a picture and saves with the same letters
