Apple Watch Series 1 Not counting calories correctly

Hello there!

This issue has been ongoing ever since around the end of March 2017 and it still hasn't been resolved and has been to the repair center twice already only to be told it works fine or it was fixed. However upon receiving the watch, It still would not count calories correctly. The best example that I have of this is when on April 22, 2017 (Earth Day), I went on a hike and hiked around 9 miles that day, walked 16,199 steps, and had exercise minutes of 145 minutes out of 30 minutes only to have burned 3 calories the entire day!? To this day it still is not counting calories correctly, and sure I don't necessarily workout very often, however just normal walking, running, and going up down flights of stairs would burn more than 4 calories in a week Seriously, out of two times I've taken this watch to the genius bar, both times diagnostics weren't able to be performed as the watch simply would not connect to diagnostics, and the watch was factory reset to ensure it wasn't software related, and the problem is still going on! Any resolution for this issue would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Hi David

The following steps may help:

Check your personal information:

  • Active calories and other activity-related estimations depend, in part, on your personal information.
  • To check that this is accurate:
    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

Check your Location Services settings:

  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
    • Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
    • In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.
    • Also enable options under System Services including Motion Calibration & Distance, Wi-Fi Networking and Mobile Network Search.
    • If the settings are already enabled, try briefly turning them off and then back again.

Reset your existing calibration data and recalibrate your Apple Watch:

Check that you are wearing your Apple Watch sufficiently snugly on the top of your wrist:

  • If your Apple Watch is worn too loosely, it can believe that it has been removed, causing activity to not be tracked.
  • For the best performance from your Apple Watch - including the most accurate readings from the heart rate sensor, which is used continually during workouts - be sure to wear your Apple Watch snugly (but not too tightly) during your workouts.
  • Apple suggests tightening your Apple Watch band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards:
