Where is my printer icon ??

I have a new MacBook pro 2017 using OS Sierra. It is synched with my wireless epson eco-printer 4550 and prints as needed - no problem. I would like to have the printer icon in the dock but cannot find the printer icon anywhere on the computer. I read in the forum to open the printer set up icon, double click on the printer listed and that it would then appear in the dock. It did not. I have checked in all the normal places (apps, launchpad, etc.)...Can you help me with finding where it is and then getting it into the dock ?

As printer drivers are a preference setting not an application and can't be placed in the dock, it is located in:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Printers

Double click the Printer in the left column to reveal the settings menu for items such as supply levels, cleaning print heads, test page, depending on what that driver has available.

Are you saying you cannot get the icon to appear when double-clicking on its icon in System Preferences, Printers and Scanners? Are you saying that when you print something no icon appears in the Dock? If so, disregard the following and consider the possibility of updating the print driver on your computer.

If you do see the printer while the job is printing, here is one (slightly clunky) way to get and keep the icon in the dock. Print something. While the print icon is in the dock click on the icon, which should open a window showing the details of the print job. This open window will keep the icon from disappearing at the end of the print job. Now, control-click the icon and select "Keep in Dock". That should do it - at least it worked for me.

Normally the printer icon only appears in the Dock while you are printing and then disappears when the print job has completed. You can put the printer icon on the Desktop however - it is useful when you have more than one printer since you can drag print jobs directly to the printer icon to direct the print job to it. Open System Preferences and select Printers & Scanners. Drag the printer icon to the Desktop.
