Presenter notes will NOT show in Keynote

I have done everything that everyone suggests on every forum I can find - displays, turned off mirroring etc etc. but I cannot get the presenter notes to show on my Mac.

Than I found a note in the Keynote for iCloud Help section which says "Note: if you add presenter notes to this presentation using Keynote for Mac, they are not visible when playing the presentation in Keynote for iCloud".

I don't know which version I am using, but I'm hoping that if I play the presentation through Keynote for Mac the presenter notes will show....but I only have one Keynote option to open...any ideas on how I can ensure it isn't Keynote for iCloud i'm using?

Is presenter notes selected in Presenter Display?

1 - Play > Rehearse Slideshow

2 - clickthe presenter tools button

3 - select Presenter Notes

three things to check:

1 - mirror, must be deselected in: Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement:

2 - select presenter display in: Keynote > Preferences > Slideshow:

3 - again, if presenter notes are showing on the wrong display, swap by pressing X on the keyboard

slides that have presenter notes, show a marker, top right in the Navigator:

Thanks Gary. I had done all thsee but no joy.

And pressing X just makes a noise, no change of display.

I have now given up and resorted to printed out notes - not very high tech!

Thanks for explaining the Mac/iCloud difference.

Frustratingly, this still isn’t working. I can see presenter notes in rehearse and normal view, but the second I plug it into the projector, they disappear. And trying to type “X” on the screen does nothing, other than make a noise. i have “show presenter notes” ticked, but they just disappear.

I’ve updated everything, installed the latest High Sierra (at Apple supports suggestion) but nothing.

Keynote for Mac is an application found in the Applications folder, therfore software is installed on the Mac:

Keynote for iCloud is a web based service, it uses a web browser, normally Safari, to connect to Apple's iCloud website, software is not installed on the Mac, you must sign in to iCloud to use it.

To use presenter notes go to:

View > Show Presenter Notes

To test presenter notes are working, go to:

Play > Rehearse Slideshow

if presenter notes are not displayed, press the X key on the keyboard
