Best way to play .wav files?

I bought 5 digital recorders for my journalism classes to use. They connect fine to the Macs and create a .wav file which we drag to the Mac. When we try to double-click to play them, we get an error. I changed the default player to be Quicktime for a .wav file and we still get the error below. Any ideas? I need to be able to load this solution on a lab of 25 Macs so everyone can play the files. Most machines are running El Capitan.
