You will need to talk to your carrier to ensure that the SIMs that they provide you are suitable for iPhone 4s.
You also need to ensure that your phone is not locked the previous carrier on which it was used. There are various websites that claim to identify if the phone is carrier locked. I'm unable to recommend any in particular, and you will be passing personal info to whichever you choose (if any), so research it carefully. If it is locked to a previous carrier, then that carrier will need to unlock it for you.
