why isnt my macbook charging

For some reason my MacBook is not charging. The indicator on the charger itself it lit and also when you unplug it the battery level on the side blinks as if it was dead. I've tried resetting smc and check the charger port. I was using my laptop one day and the screen went black as if it went into sleep mode but the sound was still playing. So I force powered it off (yes I know bad idea) but it wasn't doing anything for awhile. But now it won't turn back on.
