IPhone x phone ringer turns down
iPhone X, iOS 11.1
iPhone X lowers ringer volume if its face detection algorithm determines that you’re looking at the phone, in which case an audio cue is no longer needed.
It should ring normally when the screen is off, or you’re not looking at it.

Same here, it has happened twice or three times to me already; randomly just starts turning itself down. I had music playing, and my music volume (Bluetooth level) turned itself all the way down. Only way I got around it was to hard restart the phone.
Turn off Attention Aware feature under Face ID works for me.
I encountered same issue and had many missed calls due to this setting being turned on by default.
Seems like the attention aware features was not really accurate, I had the phone in my bag on the side while having lunch and I couldn't hear the phone ring.
This doesn't look like a feature to me. Check out the recordings:

Trying to figure out if it's a software problem or a hardware issue. Any thoughts?
What your device is doing is nothing at all like the original post. If it doesn't feel like one of your volume buttons is physical stuck, then it's probably a software issue. You should start by resetting all settings, and if it's still doing it, then you need to restore your iPhone and set up as new. If still unresolved, then you may have a hardware problem after all.
Unfortunately, that didn’t work for me. I have the iPhone 8+. It has Touch ID instead of FaceID next ti passcode, and for me there wasn’t a setting to turn off as the link described. Any other ideas? I HATE this feature with a passion.
I find this feature VERY useful, bu the problem is that recently ( after upgrading to 11.3 beta ) it stopped working and I feel really bad, I couldn’t find any solution to make it happen work, I have attention aware features enabled but it’s still not working, could somebody help me please x(
Turn off Attention Aware feature under Face ID & Passcode 🙂
As mentioned above, that's expected behavior. Here's your official reference.
thank you!
Thank you! Why in the world was this automatically turned off?? I have almost slept through so many very quiet alarms!
Mine is already turned on. :/ Does it all the time.
You just saved me a trip to the Apple Store or a long call. Thank you
