Airport Express and Verizon FIOS router 2017

Looking at ALL the other questions, time for new 2017 thread.

Just switched to Verizon Fios. Old Comcast network was Apple based; AX(1st) and AE(2nd - for range extending). Zero problems.

Cant find the old Airport Utilities for Windows, so I'm configuring through my iPhone.

I hard reset my AE, go into Wifi, find my AE, select ADD/extend network, setup device name and pass, input network pass, AE resets.... and nothing.

Signal strength is still the same through out the house. I put the AE about 20ft away and my range and strength is still the same.

Anyone have updated tips and tricks? TIA!

*update*

Saw in an earlier 2011 post that Apple products work with non apple products.... is this true? cause why does the Airport Utility on my phone says its "connected" and the settings in on the AE have all the DNS and other info correct?

Also Could I use my AX instead to extend the network, if the AE isn't allowed?

An AirPort Express can "join" the wireless network provided by the Verizon network, so it could be used for AirPlay. But...the AirPort Express does not "extend" the network when it joins. So, there will no additional signal "boost" or "extension".

And, it is possible that an AirPort Extreme could "join" a wireless network. But, since it cannot extend the network, it does not do anything......since there is no AirPlay function on an AirPort Extreme. It might look like it's "connected", but it is not doing anything.

Connect the AirPort Extreme to the Verizon modem/router using a wired Ethernet cable connection and set up the Extreme to "create a wireless network". Then, set up the AirPort Express to "extend" that network.

Let's start from the beginning and work one step at a time.

You have a Verizon modem/router that is providing your wireless network, correct?

If you are trying to configure the AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express to wirelessly extend the signal from the Verizon router....that won't work. Apple routers will only wirelessly extend the signal from another Apple router.

Please clarify on what it is that you want to do.
