With any open app, swipe halfway up the page and hold your finger there. This will bring up all the apps most recently used and let your finger go off the screen. Now, put your finger on any of the apps and hold it there until you see a - sign. You can tap the -sign or swipe up to close the app(s) you want to close.


Please note, it really isn't necessary to close apps anymore. Apple long ago changed things so that apps that are suspended are not continuing to do anything until called back into play. They aren't using data. They aren't using power, they're just there to be reopened in the exact same place you were when you sent into something else.

That isn't entirely true.


You still need to kill apps when they hang or otherwise become unresponsive, and the Facebook app is still an incredible battery hog if left open.

I wasn't speaking of apps that are hanging, but for the most part is it no longer necessary to force close suspended apps and even Apples SVP of software and other trusted sources agree its not necessary:
