router vulnerability

I have just bought an iMac and am just learning to drive it. When I ran Avast Security free version, the home network security scan shows my router has vulnerabilities. yes probably because I haven't made a secure password yet? It's saying I have an external open port. Avast vulnerability ID= HNS-WAN-ACCESS. Will this vulnerability be alleviated when I change the default router password? P.S the router is from Belong, a sagemcom, any help appreciated, julie

In the url bar type IP address .

In the fields type as admin and in the password field the password created by you .

Make sure keep the settings as automatic as the router will set by itself , in some routers firewall settings box has to be checked , finally click on save .

What Roger Wilmut suggested is appreciable , strong passwords and hard reset will clear all the settings .

Thank you for your reply Barney, regs router admin password That's what I thought so I found my IP and typed it into the top line of my browser, is that called URL line? So where I log in, username & p/w, it says will be sent unencrypted??? I eventually decided, can't hurt, any idiot could find default settings. So I proceed to update login details and that is also sent unencrypted, that's why I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me why that is happening? And is it ok to go ahead? Cheers

Usually your router settings address - which the instructions for it should provide - will begin with 192 - for example mine is http://192.168.0.1/. This is a purely local address - it's not accessible from outside unless someone hacks your wifi. It's a good idea to change the router password from the default. Once you've changed to a reasonably strong password, even if someone hacked your wifi (whose own password should be strong) they wouldn't be able to access the settings.
