after upgrading to ios 11 on my iphone 7, every time my phone gets restarted i keep getting alerts for random old text messages some of which are even 200 days old. (keep get alerts for about 2 minutes then it stops) anyone else facing similar issues? i have even tried upgrading to ios 11.0.3 but yet it is the same.

This doesn’t help. I have same issue. Started when I upgraded my iPhone 7. Happens also with my iPhone X which I restored from the iPhone 7 backup. Worse yet the notifications eandomly start flooding in while on airplane mode in the middle of the night.
I have this problem, but I think it's unrelated to restart in my case. Unless my iPhone restarted on its own?
Either way, it's 2am and just got woken up by a series of notifications in a row for texts that came in over the last 24 hours. I've already seen all of these notifications before, it's not like they were hanging around on the home screen.
Even if it's because they are unread and the phone restarted, there's no reason to play the alert sound a bunch of times. What an annoying bug.
I tried closing the imessage app , yet it still happens the same everytime my phone restarts. For next 2-3 mins I cannot do anything as the notifications keep popping up. I could turn off notifications for imessage but then what is the point of notifications. This is clearly a bug and I hope apple is working on a fix for it soon.
I have the same. Started when I upgraded to iOS 11. iPhone 6s Plus. It's consistent - every time I restart the phone I get a bunch of notifications for old messages, as if I just received them.
