preview jumps to first page on edit

I purchased a new mac iBook Pro last week. I use Preview to merge and edit PDF's. Some are hundreds of pages long. With the new laptop Preview automatically jumps to the first page of the PDF whenever I delete a page in the middle of the document. On the iBook Pro that I just replaced, it would display the page immediately after the newly deleted page. I think that jumping to the first page is a bug and not a feature. In any case, I want Preview to jump to the page after the one I just deleted. How do I make this happen?

New iBook Pro: OS 10.12.6, Preview 9.0 (909.18)

Old iBook Pro: OS 10.11.6 Preview 8.1 (877.7)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 4 TBT3), macOS Sierra (10.12.6), Preview bug

Your reply is not helpful. I understand that programs do what they are programmed to do. I've known that since the 80's. Bugs are not because a program executes incorrectly, but because they were programmed incorrectly.

My question is: did the developers intend to change how Preview responds to a page deletion, or was it an inadvertent change that needs to be corrected.

Thank you.
