created a strong password and now I am locked out. need help resetting pw

You cannot reset the password. You will need to restore the device to remove the current password, then you can restore your latest backup. See the instructions here. If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
