Email keeps crashing

I could not find the answer to this problem anywhere, but this is the solution that worked for me.

1. Delete the mail app. DO NOT log out or delete ANY mail accounts, just delete the mail app.

2. Reinstall the mail app from the iTunes store.

3. Before opening the newly installed mail app, go to Accounts and Passwords under the settings and turn mail back on any account that you had it on before the reinstall. (When you deleted the mail app it turned off mail on all these accounts.)

I see that the Mail application on your iPhone won't open. When you try to view your email, it quits almost immediately. Good job in updating your phone, and I'm happy to help.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- First, force close the Mail application if it's open, then -- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Once it's returned to the Home screen, test the issue. If you've already restarted your phone with the Mail application closed, continue to the next step.

How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If restarting your iPhone with the application closed didn't resolve the issue, you can offload the Mail application, then reinstall it again. Offloading the Mail application leaves your email accounts in place. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, scroll to the Mail application and tap "Offload App". Once the application has been removed, reinstall it again and test.

For me i found out that it wasnt the app but it was my hotmail for some reason it was loading over 1000 email which cause the app to crash. It was loading all the old and deleted mail so i had to manually sign in and delete all the mail in my inbox. After that the app worked fine again.

Have the same issue, mail crashing all the time on iphone (11.2.2) and ipad (11.2.1). Deactivated an email account (exchange) and problem seems to be fixed. Think that there is some kind of bug running an exchange account into mail. Whenever i do reactivate the exchange account, mail crashes again.

For me works after I have removed all email accounts, (on latest IOS version you can put only off do not need to delete emails accont) login in browser and deleted some html emails than added only Gmail accont and exchange I have moved on microsoft email app.

Go to Safari /Google enter your email providers name then your email address

Then put forgot password they will help you to reset password.

Then go to settings down to Email Accounts delete account that not working then add back again.

I do have the same issue for about two months. Currently, I'm running on 11.2.6 (iphone 7) but I encountered the issue already some updates ago.

I tried all the mentioned things but the only solution is to delete and add the exchange account (O365) again. After a few days, the same issue appears again. So far, I couldn't figure out any way to trigger the problem 'manually'.

My IMAP and shared mailbox account on the phone don't experience the same issue.

Kinda have a feeling that it might have something to do with the syncing between the phone mailbox and the exchange.

Hi. Facing the same issue since I updated to 11.1. Mail app keeps crashing. Phone screen becomes unresponsive and the phone is extremely slow. Tried offloading apps and reinstalling. Also updated to iOS 11.1.2 today, but same result. Can I go back to 10.3 as that seems to be the last stable iOS for iPhone 6. I hope this is not apple’s way to make my buy a new iPhone ☹

I have same problem startung today on iPhone X 11.2.5. I do have configured one exchange and two gmail acconts. It’s closing evertime I open it. Any solution around ?

P.S. I did try solution mention above but doesn’t works for me.

Same issue for several months now, persisted through every update and now on 11.2.6 on an iPhone 6S. Tried to delete and re-install iCloud account, but no delete button and no profile delete. There is a delete menu item for Exchange, but says it'll delete all contact / calendars etc - which don't want to risk.

Same issue like this for 2 months now. Very annoying my android device is working just fine!! Steve jobs would roll in his grave if he knew!

Since it’s an exchange account it won’t be a problem. You’ll get all calendar, notes etc. entries back once you add the account again.
