I'm trying to set up a recovery key on my iPhone X. Whenever I generate it and it asks me to type it in I get "Verification failed - Your recovery key is incorrect" no matter how many times I type it or generate new keys.

I'm told what the key is. Then it asks me to enter it. And no matter how many times I type it it still says "Verification failed".
I read the article. It's asking to input the key and there's clearly a bug preventing it from entering.
Oh, recovery key, not recovery code. Yes, recovery key is something used in Apple’s world.
You don’t get to “set up a recovery key.” You are told what the key is.
Read the article I attached above thoroughly and carefully.
Two possible issues that come quickly to mind:
Please explain exactly what “recovery code” means. This is not a common term in Apple parlance.
Recovery key is part of Apple's two-factor authentication. Settings -> [User] -> Password & Security -> Recovery Key.
Setting up recovery key keeps saying incorrect.
