iPhone X rear camera not working

Congratulations on your new iPhone X! I see that you're experiencing an issue with the rear camera, however. It will only take pictures in Portrait mode. Any other results in a white/blank screen and the pictures come out the same. I can understand your disappointment and I'm happy to help.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- Since restarting and forced-restarting your phone didn't resolve the issue, please be sure to have a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe. In order to back up your Health data, the backup needs to be encrypted. iCloud does this automatically, but iTunes doesn't. If you'd like to use iTunes to back up your phone, refer to this article: About encrypted backups in iTunes

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Even though the title of the article isn't specific to your issue, the section titled "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" will walk you through all the steps to reinstall the iOS software on your device. Test the issue once your phone has returned to the Home screen.

I’ve had this same problem ever since I took the 11.2 update. I’ve done all the steps, even reset as a new phone and nothing worked. I took it to the Genius Bar and the replaced the camera but less than 24 hours later the camera is exhibiting the same behavior. Going back to Apple. My feeling is this is software related and not hardware.

I am having problems. As you said they finally replaced the camera and everything seemed ok until a day or so later. Now the portrait mode won’t work at all. Regular photos are “ok” but not as good as iPhone 7 photos.

Hey, you might have seen my trash talking response to the auto reply system “Jeremy” ‘s “solution” for you. And just thought I’d be friendly to someone, I just updated the software to 11.2.5 and my camera works (for now). If it messes up again, which I’m betting it will no later than the time of the next update. Hope it helped

Software update to 11.2.5? I just did it and it fixed it, for now at least. Hope it works for you, and if this was just as useless as “Jeremy” the robot’s response, please let me know. I’ll go apply at Apple

I’m having an issue with the rear camera. It works to take one picture, then it freezes and unfreezes and the image is too dark in live view.

Hard reset and power off don’t work.

It seems to be software related, not hardware. I’m on 12.2.5.

Well I was taking pictures with my brand new space gray 64GB IPhone X and all of a sudden my rear facing camera just freezed and it did that for a while and then I restarted it and it fixed, well hopefully for that was just the day before I am righting this. Sorry I don’t have the same Robles with the live biew

I meant the issue was not fixed by powering off.

It’s a software issue that’s sporadic, which will make it difficult to diagnose. Going to the Apple Store. I expect it will happen with other iPhone X models.

Did you manage to sort your problem out? Mine has the same issue. Only 7 days old and now the flashlight doesn’t work or camera.

You can't be on 12.2.5, that does not currently exist. If you think it's a software problem, then you need to restore your iPhone.
