How can I see SMS history through Bluetooth?

My iPhone 7plus connects properly to my car and will transfer SMS messages to the car display - when an SMS is received while the iPhone is connected to the car.

The problem is that the iPhone is not passing on to the car any of the SMS history. The car display shows no SMS at all even though the phone may have a whole bunch.

This makes no sense. It was working fine with my previous Android phone, I could see all SMS once the phone was connected. The car can do it.

Can the iPhone do it? How?

The manual shows that the car does it (as it did with my previous phone).

Thus my post inquiring about the phone (hoping that there was a setting I did not know about).

Would you know if iPhones can do it and how?

Who told you it would do that? Check the manual for the system in your car. That would not be a function of the phone. It would be a function of the head unit in the car.
