Trackpad Freezing

I have a mid-2014 macbook pro 13" retina. Everything was working fine until I opened the lid to wake the computer today. The mouse started freezing every second and stays frozen for 5 seconds...basically unusable.

I had been running Sierra since release without issue. I tried resetting NVRAM and the SMC with no luck. I tried upgrading to High Sierra with no luck and finally wiped the HD and performed a fresh install of High Sierra with no luck.

Since I am having the same problem after upgrading, formatting, and freshly installing the newest OS I fear this is a hardware issue.

Thoughts?

Good afternoon embraceentropy,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand the trackpad on your MacBook Pro is not responding when you wake the computer. Do you have a wired or USB mouse to test? Based on the troubleshooting steps that you've tried, I would suggest having your MacBook Pro physically inspected by an Apple Retail Store Genius or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Click on the link below to find one near you.
