How can I change the sort options when opening a file in Pages?

When I open a file in Pages (or any Mac app), how do I get the file list to sort by name? I abhor the system of sorting by date (which is inaccurate anyway) and can't even find an option for sorting by name, which is far more logical for me. I have no trouble sorting by name in Finder.

I've always had this issue, but I'm on a 2015 MacBook Pro, Sierra 10.12.6. Pages is 6.3.
