can't print–'filter' failed

iMac running OS X El Capitan v10.11.6

Epson WF-3540 series printer

Various applications, including Pages 5.6.2, Numbers 3.6.2, Preview, MS Word for Mac 15.37.

Printer and computer are connected to two LAN ports of a wireless router. WAN port connected through DSL modem to my ISP.

All attempts to print from this computer result in an alert saying "Stopped.—'Filter' failed OR a report to send to Apple, the first few lines of which are included below.

The only successful printing from this machine today was a nozzle check of the printer, that required a connection only to receive a signal from Epson's Printer Utility to start the process, which is likely contained in the printer itself. Printer Utility also receives current supply level reports from the printer.

The computer replaced an earlier iMac running Leopard (OS X 10.8.5) wth the same connection to the network. A test print from that machine, using a wi-fi connection to the network, was successful today. Applications and data were migrated from this machine to the newer one using Migration Assistant.

My MBPro, running El Capitan, has no difficulty printing to that computer from the Apple applications listed above, or from other applications. Neither of these two have Word or Excel installed.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Regards,

Barry
