iOS 11 - The Home button won't bring up passcode when the phone is in a wet weather cover

I have a wet weather cover for my phone - I can see everything and before iOS11 I was able to bring up the passcode entry (as TouchID won't recognise my fingerprint).

Since upgrading to iOS11 (both 11.03 and 11.1) this doesn't work. I press the home button and nothing happens. I hold down on it and Siri starts.

If I take the phone out of the bag then TouchID works.

However, *sometimes* if I have the phone out of the bag and try to press the home button with a finger that is *not* registered in TouchID then the same behaviour happens - the passcode entry doesn't come up.

Seems like a bug - has anyone else seen this?

Let me verify what is not working here. You say that tapping is not bringing up the passcode screen, but if you press and hold the home button Siri starts? What happens when you tap the home button many times? At some time, the screen has to request the passcode. But I wonder, since you say that Touch ID does not recognize your fingerprint, I'm guess that is due to the case, since you say that Touch ID works when outside the case.

ok, this is a pretty odd bug. I've just tried it now and it works fine.

However, whenever I complete an exercise activity with Runkeeper recording my GPS stats, and try to unlock the phone, it does not work (on iOS11). Pressing the button multiple times does *nothing*. Holding the button brings up Siri. Removing the phone from the bag and pressing the button brings up the passcode entry. *Sometimes* pressing the home button with a *non* registered finger *outside* of the bag does nothing.

Here are the scenarios

Scenario 1:

1. Runkeeper recording GPS

2. Phone in drybag

3. At least an hour has elapsed

4. Try to press home button while in drybag - nothing happens

5. Hold home button while in drybag - Siri starts

6. Take phone out and press home button with non-registered finger - sometimes nothing happens

7. Take phone out and press home button with registered finger - passcode screen comes up

Scenario 2:

1. Runkeeper recording GPS

2. Phone in drybag

3. Runkeeper just started for a minute or so

4. Try to press home button while in drybag - passcode screen comes up

I do not use this app, so there is no way I could replicate this. As far as #5, Siri is working correctly if you hold down the home button. It seems strange, but it shows there are two things at work here, besides time, and at least how you have reported it. The problem appears in Runkeeper when there is extended time since the activity, and you are using this drybag. The problem does not appear if it has been a short time since completing the activity and you are using this drybag. The hard part is there are two different common denominators here, the drybag and Runkeeper. Have you checked with the app developer and see if anyone else has experienced this issue, or uses the same drybag?

I'll try using a different app (Strava) tomorrow to see if the same thing happens.

It's a pretty weird bug and it definitely doesn't happen in daily normal non-activity-recording use, but it regularly (almost every time) happens after I've used the app to record my activity. I have noticed that Runkeeper is terribly slow these days and has been for about a year now (getting progressively worse). However, I doubt it is performance related if it works when out of the bag.

I did find *one* other report when browsing the web almost a month ago but I can't find it again (I've even tried going through my Google Search Activity to find it but I just can't find it)

The person reported pretty much the same behaviour I was experiencing. However, they didn't specify what app they were using to record their activity.
