FaceTime unreliable on High Sierra

When placing FaceTime calls, I often only see myself and not my recipient, while my recipient sees both parties with no issues (recipients often running Sierra or earlier versions of macOS). I often have to call several times, quitting and restarting FaceTime until it works properly. Or alternatively, they have to call me several times. Also, I've given up trying to call directly from iMessage as FaceTime never works that way (i.e. I have to launch the actual FaceTime app).

I have the latest version of macOS High Sierra and it was a clean install. I feel like High Sierra is riddled with bugs.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1)
