I need help updating the OS of a imac that has been dormant for some time. I have increased the memory to 4GB but the computer is running 10.6.2 and I cant access the app store to upgrade the OS.

Download this Download Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update v.1.1 and then install you should now be able to access the App Store and check for any further updates before deciding if you want to or can upgrade further.

Use the Software Update pane of System Preferences or download 10.6.8 from Apple’s Support site, and then upgrade to Lion or El Capitan depending on what Mac model you have; some Macs can’t be upgraded past 10.6.8.
