Old iMessages popping up after reboot

Over the last couple of months our iPhones (iOS 11) have started popping up all our old iMessages every time the phone is turned on! This is happening on 3 different phones and it randomly notifies us of up to 5-6 old messages ranging from a few days to 200+ days ago...

Any ideas what’s causing this?
