Battery?...

I have a MacBook that is a few years old. Bought it used, a couple years ago.

I use it for writing. Connect to the internet only when I need to. Works out great for this.

Lately it quit running on battery. I can run it with the charger/AC supply connected. I'm pretty sure it's the battery.

Now do I really have to open this thing up to determine what battery to buy?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

No, just the model and age will identify the battery in your Mac, and you can buy a good replacement from these people.
