My husband had an iPad mini that he gave me. Is it possible to change the email and password for it to mine or do I have to get a new SIM card?

Is it possible to change the username and password ? My husband had given me an old iPad mini that he had and I would like to put my pics/ games etc. on it. Do I need to get a new SIM card? Thank you
