Iphone7 and iPad iMessage sync

My iphone 7 and my ipad always sync my messages. I updated both yesterday to 11.1 and now my messages will either appear on ipad or on iphone, depending which device i use. I have gone to settings- then messages. I have clicked iMessages on and off several times. My email appears under Send SMS on my ipad and there is no checkmark. When I click on my email address nothing happens( it is in grey, not blue).On my iphone, my phone number appears. I have turned the messages on and off several times, i have rebooted my ipad, i have gone on line and cannot find anything else that anyone has done. They where successful But somehow mine will not sync.

Hello enidfromconyers,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help getting your Messages to sync between your devices again. I recommend going through all the the settings shown to enable this feature in the following help article, and disable everything on both devices: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

Then, I recommend restarting both devices: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once both devices are restarted, go ahead and re-set all those settings up on both devices. this should get the syncing restarted again.
