How do I update my IOS from 10.9 to 10.12 or higher?

I am trying to update the IOS on my MacPro from 10.9 to 10.12 (or higher) so that I can download Pages. I searched the Apple support site but did not see anything applicable to this. I apparently cannot update to High Sierra.

I appreciate any help.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

If you think you cannot upgrade to High Sierra is this because you're mac is too old, macOS High Sierra - Technical Specifications if so then you can only go to El Capitan which is still available. How to download OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

In all likely hood you will not be able to get the latest version of Pages as you need Sierra or High Sierra to install it.
