‘Recents’ continue to appear in a wiped iPhone

I recently gave my old iPhone SE to a family member having first logged out of my Apple ID and using the erase all contents and setting functions. However, when they send emails my old contacts appear as ‘recents’ suggestions as they enter names in the ‘To’ box. Is there any way to stop this without using the ‘remove from recents’ function for each address? thanks
