Wipe 2011 Macbook Pro

Hello,

I have a old 2011 macbook pro that I no longer use. A few years back I spilled water on the keyboard and it caused the keyboard to act funky (among other issues, everything comes out in capital letters). I have tried fiddling with the digital keyboard in the access tools and resetting those to defaults. Even though it does not appear in the digital keyboard tool that capslock or shift is stuck, the letters still all come out as caps (more problematic is that numbers are coming out as the characters, rather than the numbers e.g. !#(*$&)(*@^@*&^)

Now, I would like to completely wipe the laptop of my data so I can despose of the laptop, however, command R does not work (my guess is its related to the keyboard issue). Any suggestions for alternatives or ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance.
