should I up grade from El Capitan to Sierra

Mac Book Pro mid 2014 286GB

I resisted the upgrade as every time I upgraded, I ended up phoning for support to sort my Mac as it didn't go smoothly, now theres an upgrade to Sierra. I don't upgrade new upgrades till bugs sorted, so now Im behind.

Could I now upgrade to Sierra? And how do I?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Even though High Sierra is out you can still upgrade to Sierra if you want.

NO, wait till new year.

I wanted to upgrade to Sierra and waited because every time I've upgraded the operating system its gone hay wire and I have to get Apple support to sort it out. Well, unfortunately Sierra has security issues and they dashed out Sierra High, which I downloaded to my deep regret:((

The next day, I uploaded new photos to my mac book pro and tried to edit them - SOOOO slow and got stuck in the photo application(apples) I'd read there were problems with photo and itunes. I had to message apple support, was talking to them by message for nigh on 3 hours - nothing sorted, they booked me a call with a tech, another lengthy call and the chap had to take my laptop BACK to El Capitan via my back ups:(( I'd also booked a Genius appt in my local town - 10 miles away! Checked over all ok, apparently till I found iTunes disk was locked!!! Another couple of hours with support to sort this out. I'm hoping everything is as it was.
