I have an iPhone 6S with iOS 11.0.3. When I pick up the phone WIFI is invariably on. I turn it off and seemingly automatically WIFI is again on the next time I pick up the phone. I'd like to have control over when it is turned on in an attempt to conserve the battery. Is it possible to disable this automatic enabling of WIFI?

Thank you for that. Not real happy with this property of the phone, but thank you for explaining. So If I go to Settings and turn off WIFI, it should not come back on automatically when I come into range of a WIFI signal?
The only way for IOS 11 and after is to go to settings. Now control center does not turn wifi, Bluetooth, or cellular off completely.
that is correct, if you turn off wifi from setting, it will not turn back on automatically.
iOS 11.0.3 on iPhone 6S, WIFI turns on automatically.
