Airport extreme giving wrong password in error

This is a two year old extreme, worked well till a few months back.

now it displays sporadically when connecting wirelessly

‘wrong password‘when connecting.

password is unchanged and a power cycle of the router allows full functionality for 8hrs to 24 hrs, then it happens again.

changed network name, no spaces, changed passwords, same problem. Down graded firmware to last rev, same.

anyone have an idea, or is this a pooched router?

If you also have already tried "factory default" resets on this base station, and it still exhibits these behaviors, it may well be defective or starting to be.

If you bought this base station with another qualifying Apple product, like a notebook or desktop computer ... AND you have an extended AppleCare+ warranty, you may be able to get it replaced at your local Apple Store.
