High Sierra emoji switching problems.

Upgraded to High Sierra (10.13.1) and noticed that now, when having selected Edit➞Emoji & Symbols, once you select an "alternate" version of an emoji, you can't get the emoji "switch back" to it's original "default" image. Very frustrating. Happens when posting messages running under Google Chrome (61.0.3163.100) or Safari (11.0.1 (13604.3.5)).

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), mid-2010 i3 iMac w/ 16GB installed

Hi bondmaster,

It sounds like you're having trouble customizing the Emojis you're sending to people. I want to help you get the answers you need.

To change between different versions of Emojis, after you go to Edit > Emojis & Symbols, you click and hold on the Emoji you would like to alter to get the option to select a different variant.

Check out more on adding characters from the Character Map here:
macOS Sierra: Use emoji and symbols

Let me know if that helps.
