iPhone will not back up despite plenty of storage and good wifi connection

I have a iPhone 6s updated to iOS 11.0.3. The problem I am having is backing up my phone. I have it on automatic backup and I believe this issue started after I downloaded this new iOS about 3-4 weeks ago. Despite being plugged into a power source and connected to wifi it acts as if it is going to backup only to fail after about 1-2 mins. I get the reason "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". This has happened at multiple places over several weeks on different wifi networks. Any help appreciated.
