Question: secondhand imac old owner (dead) apple id appears gray in app store. can't change. I want to use my apple id. How?

Secondhand imac. the old owner is dead; email disconnected. No security question answers of course.

When attempting to update, the old owner's 3d party email appears as his id, gray and unchangeable, and his password is required. I don't have it. How can I get his email out and use my existing apple ID?

I've tried a reinstall of the OS which didn't solve the problem.

  • Can I find this file in the computer somewhere and change the default email?
  • Can I restore from a backup during a reinstall of the OS and not restore this old information?
  • Can I uninstall and re install the app store and accomplish it that way?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)
