What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch..
You can sign into your iCloud.com page, click on Find My Phone. If this phone is still a listed device then you can remove the lock and delete the phone from your list.

I'm having the same problem with the old icloud/iTunes account being deleted and the only answer which is Apple Recommended doesn't fix the problem. The only reply saves you must sign into that account and remove the device there is no way to sign into an account once it does not exist???
no way to sign into an account once it does not exist???
It is highly unlikely that this is true. Unless you called Apple and went through the lengthy and memorable process of deleting an Apple ID, your account still exists.
You can try to recover that account by starting here >>> http://iforgot.apple.com
Really? Because when I enter in the email that was used, it tells me that there is not Apple ID that exists for the email that was used. I do not suffer from amnesia, therefore I do not remember the lengthy and memorable process of deleting an account that has been deleted.
The apple ID on the old device may show an old email address. If you changed the email for the Apple account, try the current password for the current email. This was true even when iforgot.apple.com said there was no account with the old email address.
That trick allowed me to get past the prompt on an old iPad after my daughter changed the email and password for her Apple ID account.
how Can i reset an old iPad
You may have have changed the email address associated with your Apple ID, but you did not, on your own, delete an Apple ID.
Best of luck to you...
Thanks, this worked great on an old iPhone I have.
I have an old ipad that i am trying to reset for my son to use. the apple ID on there no longer exists but it will not let me delete it without entering the password to the icloud account. Ive searched for the account but it doesnt exist
