Trying to update iphoto

Hi there,

I have a 2012 Mac Book Pro and I want to sync my photos to iCloud. iCloud will not let me sync my photos on my computer because it says iPhoto needs to be updated. When I go into iPhoto and click "search for updates" a window pops up about iLife '11. I have no idea how to get iLife '11, when i click "learn more" it just brings me to Apple's home page.

Please someone tell me... how do I sync my photos to iCloud!? I want to update my computers software but am afraid of loosing my years of photos.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook Pro

If you’re running iPhoto 9 on Mac OS X 10.9.5 or earlier, click here.

If you’re running an earlier version of iPhoto, or are using Yosemite or newer, either switch to Photos or put iPhoto in a location Spotlight doesn’t index, log into the Mac App Store with an Apple ID previously used to download it, click on the Purchases tab, and download iPhoto 9.6.1.

In any case, back up your data before proceeding.
