Using Face ID to approve family purchases

I'm sure that after I set up my iPhone X last weekend I was able to approve family purchase requests with Face ID. Now, for every request I get (and with 3 kids I get lots of them!) I'm being forced to type in my Apple ID password, which is frustrating given how complicated they have to be these days to be considered secure.

I've checked every setting I can find, turned relevant settings off and back on, and even removed the Apple ID from my phone entirely and set it back up again. But sadly, it still wants me to type in the full password. Interestingly, it still lets me use Touch ID on my iPad to approve so it seems to be specific to the iPhone X/Face ID combo.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to correct it?

I am facing the exact same problem. Please fix this. It's a painful experience having to input that long long Apple ID password every time my kids want to buy some app. Face ID is supposed to be safe. So PLEASE FIX.

I’ve got the same issue. Super annoying to have it working fine on my 7 with thumb print then pay the premium to upgrade to the 10 and now have to punch in my security worthy password every time my 2 kids want a new app or something.

Apple please give us an ETA on when we can expect this to be fixed. Thank you

Not sure you know this, but Apple isn't here. This is a user to user support forum, and none of us can speak to Apple's future plans. If you want Apple to know this is something you want, you can provide feedback via this link: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

What is the proper way to submit feedback?

I’d like to give them plenty of feedback on how annoying the lack of FaceID with APP store Famiky Share purchases is!!! Not to mention all the other crappy problems with this $1,100 piece of JUNK! Wish I would NEVER HAVE UPGRADED! My 7Plus was a WAY better device. iPhoneX = epic Apple FAIL!!

At least we know this inconvenience was intentional. But it begs the question why? The whole point of having biometric auth is to save us from typing in a massively complex password every time we need to get an app. I have four kids. Teens! Do you have any idea how many requests I get? My carpal tunnel is bad and getting worse. Soon I will need a helper monkey. Please, please turn on face authentication for parental approvals.

This is beyond frustrating and Apple please fix you are better then this. Entering complex passwords every time my kids want an app is frustrating. If worried about security give us the option to enable or disable.

Again, Apple isn't here. so your request to fix this won't do anything. Use the link provided above to tell Apple what you think.

I have an update, but no solution as yet. I reported the issue to Apple and they've been running through a few diagnostics with me. The initial response was "it doesn't work with Touch ID either" but I pointed out that's not true because I do it all the time on my other devices. I then spent some time gathering logs off the phone and sending to them and the latest is they've asked me to install a profile and collect further logs.

The solution is turning it on so it is a problem as stated, considering Apple itself marketed Face ID as a "like-for-like" replacement for Touch ID. Which can be used to approve family requests. So it is either a problem (the solution as simple as turning it on) as stated, or Apple lied in their marketing. Your constant defense of Apple adds no value to this topic and is frankly annoying.
