iPhone Touch Gen 4 only displays lit display but no icons.

My iPhone Touch Gen 4 (iso 6.1.6) only display a lit display when I attempt to start it. I have tried all the reset protocols suggested on the Apple site. iTunes recognizes the unit when attached so have also attempted to restore to factory while attached to iTunes. The unit is fully charged.

Any suggestions?

Dave.

I have never heard of this happening before, I also have an iPod 4th generation and it has not had this problem. The only thing I can think of is to plug it into a computer and go to iTunes. I would restore it from an iCloud backup or reset the device entirely to see if that fixes the problem. If that doesn’t work then I would take it in to get fixed: https://support.apple.com/ipod/repair/service

Sorry for the delay in answering - away overnight but thanks for your quick response.

When the unit is off, of course the display is blank (black).

When I push the top button, the display lights up with a uniform bluish-white light (backlight?) but nothing is displayed.

The bluish-white light turns off after a few seconds and the screen reverts to its "off" (black) status.

So that means you have tried plugging it into a power source and then (while still plugged in), press-and-holding the Home and power buttons at the same time, waiting for the "Power Off" message to appear but continuing to hold the buttons and waiting for the display to turn off and then the Apple logo appearing, haven't you?

Even if the "Power Off" message does not display, it's the Apple logo that's important, while it is displayed, the iPod is re-booting. Make sure it is plugged into power while you try this procedure.
