iOS 11.1.1 stuck updating

So I have an IPhone 5s, 16GB (aka actually 14.91GB), and I've been trying to update to iOS 11.1.1 for six hours now. It gets through the first progress bar fine, but then the second loads to being almost done and then just freezes. I tried force restarting three times using the 'press home to update' thing and it didn't work. Tried updating from Recovery Mode and also had to use 'press home to update'. Didn't work. Additionally, iTunes says that my software is up to date and my data is full of a bunch of 'other' data. Please help, I haven't backed up since last month so I can't restore and I really need to use my phone 😟

Hello there,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities, I know how important your iPhone is to you so here are some steps to try. I would recommend you Restore your Device using iPhone DFU Mode (Device Firmware Update) this restores your device when the software is beyond repair.

Plug your iPhone into your computer and open iTunes. It doesn’t matter if your iPhone is on or off.
Press and hold the Sleep / Wake Button and Home Button (iPhone 6s and below) or the volume down button (iPhone 7 and above) together for 8 seconds.
After 8 seconds, release the Sleep / Wake Button but continue to hold the Home Button (iPhone 6s and below) or the volume down button (iPhone 7 and above) until iTunes says “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.”
Let go of the Home Button or volume down button. Your iPhone’s display will be completely black if you’ve successfully entered DFU mode. If it’s not, try again from the beginning.
Restore your iPhone using iTunes.

This always works, and is the secret tip. Unfortunately if you were not able to backup your device beforehand your data will be lost.
