That shouldn't happen. When did you last run "First Aid" on Disk Utility?


Sometimes shutting down your Mac (rather than just restarting) seems to help with issues like speed.

Per Duchy777 suggestion, I shut down and rebooted. The pin wheel has stopped and going to directly to what I wanted to accomplish. Thanks! I had never used First Aid and did not use it. My apple support tech help told me to upgrade to High Sierra from Yosemite. Which I did and seems everything is working on this 7 year old Imac27
